Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

A single mother with four children currently has an open case with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) involving her 10-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter, 6-year-old daughter, and 3-year-old daughter. The mother is in the early stages of her case and has recently been granted HOP (Home of Parent). Although she is not employed, she has stable housing and is a full-time student. She is receiving public assistance from the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). We are requesting bed sheets and comforters and a highchair.

Help Strengthen a Bio Family

Family needs a freestanding gas range stove. The parents has been trying to budget for one but has not been successful. Although, the parents are having the challenge of purchasing a stove, they are providing the basic necessities for their children. The parents are committed to maintaining compliance with the Department and Court to keep their family together. They are working and meeting the case plan goals/court orders and are enrolled in individual therapy and Family Preservation. During my work with the family I have identified the following strengths: father is employed, the family has a strong attachment and the parents and children each have social connections and resiliency. The parent’s goals are for the children to remain in their care and home and to spend more family time together. For these reasons, I am advocating for family to have the need identified met. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because the family would benefit from hot cook meals which they all could prepare and enjoy together. The estimated cost of the need/s being requested is $630.00, I have attached a link of the stove that the family picked out that will fit in their space.

Help Improve a Child's Wellbeing

Mother needs Bed’s for the children. Mother has been trying to save up for one but has not been successful. Although, mother is having that challenge, mother is trying to her hardest to provide for her children. Mother is committed to maintaining the family together. During my work with mother I have identified the following strengths: mother works, is knowledgeable of child’s needs and is present mother goals are to be able to live on her own. The main reason I am requesting this need to be fulfilled is because Mother is a single mother with two children ages 4 and 5. The children are in the spectrum. Mother is having a difficult time saving up to buy the children a new bed. The two beds that they have are broken, have a bad odor and looks very old, which is unsanitary for the children. The nails are coming out of the bed and is a hazard to the children. Mother stated it has been difficult to save up because she is the only provider. Mother stated she knows the mattresses smell and is not sanitary but does not want her children who are in the spectrum to sleep on the floor.. This need is critical to ensuring that the children having a right bed can significantly improve sleep quality for children in the spectrum. A well-chosen bed can address sensory sensitivities, providing comfort and reducing anxiety. Help Improve a Child's Safety/Wellbeing

Hello,

We have a family that is desperately requiring help with a difficult housing situation. The family is being evicted with the courts ordering them to vacate by 02/18/2025. The family has limited income and has found it difficult to find any residence to be able to secure safe housing. Mom has 6 children and they are struggling economically as well as with their current housing and legal situation through the eviction. We are requesting financial assistance for the family to be able to utilize for a down payment on housing. We are also requesting any other assistance for the family in Pacoima to be able to find adequate housing. We have connected them with LA Housing but the process is long and difficult, especially with such a short window. This assistance would be an amazing help to allow the family to stay together and safe during this difficult time.

Help Improve a Child's School Attendance

Hello, we have an amazing family that has recently been experiencing many different economic and family hardships. The mother of one of our students recently divorced from the father forcing her to seek employment and residence in Palmdale. Student currently attends school in Sylmar and is staying with their grandmother so he may continue going to our school without interruption. The family has been suffering from economic and housing instability causing great pressure on mom to be able to purchase the required school supplies and uniforms for students. We are currently working on attempting to secure other economic opportunities for mothers in Sylmar so they may reside together. We are requesting a $150 gift card to target so students may purchase new pants, shirts,s and other clothing as well as other required school supplies, this assistance will allow student to continue to come to school un interrupted while alleviating the pressure on mom in procuring these items. We are also requesting a $200 gift card to Food4Less to assist grandma in the current expenses of being able to purchase food for her household Bless you all for reading this.

Thank You

Help Strengthen a Bio Family

The mother is a single parent of two children. She is currently receiving Section 8 housing assistance and is not working, although she does hair on the side. The CSW was able to get her approved for full-time childcare because the mother wants to search for employment. However, the childcare facility informed her that in order for her son to begin care, she needs to pay a $100 application fee. The agency stated that if the mother does not pay this fee, they will neither allow her son to start childcare nor provide funding for it. The mother asked if she could make payments of $10.00 toward the fee, as she is on a fixed income. She is requesting assistance with paying the $100 application fee so her son can begin childcare. Requested Assistance: $100 payment to cover the application fee. Strengths Identified for the Mother:

  1. The mother is able to provide housing for herself and her child.
  2. She has demonstrated resourcefulness.
  3. She is open to receiving help when needed. For these reasons, I am advocating for the mother’s need to be met. She is unable to afford the $100 application fee, and the CSW will explore other DCFS options for funding and in-kind donations. This request is being made through the CarePortal because unfortunately, DCFS does not provide funding for this type of assistance, and requests can take 8-10 weeks to process. Additionally, the case may not meet the criteria for other DCFS funding options.

Help Improve a Child's Safety/Wellbeing

We have a family currently facing an extremely challenging situation. The mother, who is the primary caregiver, shared that multiple individuals came to their home last week and threatened the family. As a result of the incident, her oldest son is now in recovery. Since then, both the mother and her children have felt unsafe leaving their home. The mother recently returned to work, but the time lost has put her significantly behind on rent, bills, and access to food. The family has filed a police report and is awaiting updates from detectives. Meanwhile, our school team is providing support to her younger son, ensuring he feels safe and surrounded by trusted individuals. This family would greatly benefit from assistance and would be deeply grateful for any support provided.
