KINSHIP. The caregiver is in need of rental support as she has fallen behind on 3 months of rent. This financial hardship began after she lost her job in 11/2024. In an effort to meet her monthly rent, she attempted to work for Eats and Uber Transportation, but it was not enough to sustain her household. She eventually exhausted her savings to cover essential expenses, which significantly impacted her financial stability. The situation worsened when the caregiver became ill and was unable to return to work, while also coping with the loss of her husband’s job. She has now returned to work but is still trying to recover financially and catch up on the missed payments. Her rent is $1,950.00, with a total of $5,850.00 owed for the 3 months. A Community Based Organization has covered a portion of this balance, but she still needs assistance to cover the remaining. She has an agreement with her landlord to make a full payment for the current month, and going forward, she will make payments of $500 on the 15th of each month to lower her balance. With this support, she will be able to catch up on her rent and provide a safe and stable home for the children. This assistance will offer the children peace of mind and a sense of security, knowing they have a stable place to call home. The caregiver does not receive any financial assistance and relies on her earnings to support the household. Once this need is met, she will be able to resume making her monthly rent payments on time.

First time single mother with minimal family support. She is in need of a car seat to safely transport her 18-month-old daughter. If possible, any additional essential baby items would be greatly appreciated as well.

This family came to the attention of DCFS due to caretaker incapacity/absence. Mother left 6 year old and 2 year old with maternal grandmother and without any provisions. Grandmother is willing to be caretaker for children in mother's absence. We are requesting assistance with providing a full size mattress, comforter set and a Smart & Final gift card for groceries as grandmother's resources are limited and she was not prepared for this sudden change in lifestyle.

The caregiver has been a consistent participant in our support groups and is requesting support in purchasing a portable heater and a walker. She is head of household and is the caregiver to a nine year old girl. Unfortunately, at this time, her expenses are greater than her income and is unable to purchase these items on her own. The caregiver is unable to be in the cold due to her bones hurting and is also experiencing mobility issues.

Grandparents ages 60 & 61 recently took in their three granddaughters ages, 17, 14, & 11 without any financial assistance from the Department of Child and Family Services or any other government assistance. Everything seemed to have been going well until the increase of ICE raids in our community, this family is facing fear like many others and the additional work hours they would count on to make ends meet have decreased. These grandparents need your support with their gas bill to get back on track and are hopeful that soon things can settle down to continue with their normal work lives without any fear to live in a safe country.

We are reaching out with an urgent request for financial assistance on behalf of a dedicated single mother and her vibrant two-year-old daughter.

Recently, the child experienced a health crisis that required hospitalization and, per the doctor’s orders, an additional three days of rest. This unforeseen medical emergency forced the mother to miss several days of work, resulting in a temporary loss of income.

The family has been approved for a Section 8 two-bedroom unit in the City of Los Angeles. However, due to this setback, the mother is now unable to cover the full $700 security deposit required to secure the unit. She has managed to raise $300 but is still in need of $400 to meet the full amount.

Despite her best efforts, this mother is at risk of losing the opportunity to secure safe and stable housing—jeopardizing not only her Section 8 voucher but also prolonging an already difficult housing search. More critically, this could negatively impact her daughter’s health, safety, and overall well-being.

Request: We are seeking an emergency contribution of $400 to help close the gap and ensure this family does not lose access to this critical housing opportunity.

Family of four. Mother and three children (14, 9, 5). Current family maintenance case. Children detained from father due to physical/emotional abuse. Mother experiencing financial hardship without assistance from father. Requesting assistance with a sofa bed that seats 3. Family lives in a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom home. A sofa bed will provide a less cramped living and sleeping arrangement. This will also reduce stress and anxiety as well as improve overall well being for the whole family.

Recently the youth (NMD) was able to secure independent housing. The youth moved into his own 1-bedroom unit, but he does not have any furniture in the home. Currently the youth is assisted with funding to pay rent $1,200, which is all the funding he is receiving for housing. Although the youth work, he also has other expenses, such as his car, utility bills, groceries etc. As a result, the youth is requesting support to purchase, a queen size bedframe and mattress, a desk, a dresser, nightstand and lamp, and a mobile kitchen counter and electric cook top.

The furniture is essential for the youth as it supports their physical development, learning and overall well-being. A study desk would provide a dedicated space for homework, reading, and other learning activities, promoting focus and productivity. Having their own furniture would allow the youth to personalize their space, fostering a sense of ownership and independence.

The request is being submitted due to the family's current economic hardship. The mother serves as the primary caregiver for both the children and the father, who along with managing ongoing medical conditions. As the main provider for the household, the mother is facing increased difficulty meeting the family's needs. The family would greatly benefit from receiving new blankets, bedsheets, and pillowcases, as well as essential medical equipment, including a reverse walker for the father and two children, and a tub transfer bench to support safe bathing. These items will help improve the family's daily functioning and quality of life given their physical challenges.

We are currently working with a dedicated mother and father who are raising five children, ages 7, 8, 10, 13, and 14. The Department is actively supporting the family as they address an ongoing hair lice outbreak. One significant barrier to fully resolving the issue is the family’s inability to afford new bedding, which is essential to prevent re-infestation and maintain a clean and healthy home environment.

The family is facing financial hardship, and the father, who is undocumented, has limited income opportunities. Despite these challenges, both parents have shown commendable effort and cooperation in managing the situation. The children are doing well academically and socially, and the family is fully receptive to the Department’s assistance.
