Hey CarePortal family, I have a request for help from a single mom. Her husband deserted the family without any financial support and he has no plans of returning. To ensure that this bio family of three can stay together safely, they need their utilities paid off (Evergy $1300.00 and Kansas Gas $609.00) because this is hindering their ability to get new service at another location. They also need help finding a new home or apartment to rent. This is a very difficult and stressful situation for this family and they could really use our help. Homeless family needs help with deposit and 1st months' rent. The Grandma welcomed three small grandchildren into her home when the daughter was sent to prison. She is providing a loving home for these children but was evicted when the landlord sold the house. The oldest son just started a job at Spirit and will live with the family for a year to help with rent to stabilize the family. Children 1st is paying for the hotel rooms, and the grandmother is actively looking for housing. Please help us get the family out of the hotel and into stable housing.

We’re reaching out to the CarePortal with a special request on behalf of an 11-year-old boy living in a kinship foster home. Right now, he doesn’t have a suitable dresser of his own—a simple but important piece of furniture that many of us may take for granted.

A dresser is more than just a place to store clothes. For a child in foster care, it represents stability, dignity, and a sense of belonging. Having a dedicated space to neatly store his clothes gives him ownership over his personal things, encourages organization, and helps create a sense of normalcy in a life that may have already seen a lot of upheaval.

This young boy is doing his best to adjust and thrive in his new home, and we’d love to help make his space more comfortable and functional. This family is in urgent need of a refrigerator and a deep freezer after their home was flooded due to recent rains and flash-flooding earlier this month. This family is facing a daunting recovery process with their four young children (ages 3 months to 7 years). Adding to their challenges, the mother and two of her children suffer from hemophilia, a rare bleeding disorder requiring extensive medical attention and costly treatment. Because their refrigerator went out, their medications were destroyed. The health insurance company will not cover costs to replace the medications.

This single mother is hoping to get financial assistance for her rent and also some personal items for her daughter. This mother works full time and works hard to support herself and her daughter. She has to use ride-shares or family members to get her around because she does not know how to drive. This alone takes a lot of her income and leaves her at a deficit when she needs to pay other bills. She is currently behind on her rent and electricity, and is hoping that whatever assistance can be offered will help her pay and get ahead. Her daughter is currently sleeping on a blow-up mattress and she would love to give her a a bed of her own. She said that if her daughter could choose the bedding it would be yellow or blue since those are her favorite colors!

This mom of 2 is asking for financial assistance as she steps back into work after having her youngest child. While she was in the last month of pregnancy her car stopped working. While she was on maternity leave she was able to make life work with her newborn and 2 year-old by staying home or using ride-shares sparingly. However, now that her maternity leave is done and she is going back to work, her insurance will not cover the cost of a rental while her car is being fixed. She is asking for financial help so that she can maintain going to work, but also having a running vehicle to get her children to appointments and daycare while her car is being repaired, which is estimated to take a month.

The family recently moved to a different area of Wichita due to one the children's behaviors in the home. The new home is smaller so the children are having to share rooms. Mom has asked several resources in the community for assistance to no avail. Mom is requesting two bunk bed frames. She has the mattresses for the beds and is only needing the frames. Any assistance would help this mother and keep her children in a safe environment.

This home took in a child that has a emotional support dog and the dog is struggling to get along with the other dogs in the house. The family is requesting help purchasing a dog kennel with a cover from Amazon. The kennel will help the family slowly introduce the dogs outside in a safe manner. The family is not wanting to just get rid of the dog either since the child has had this dog since he was a puppy and is the last thing he has from his childhood. A faith-based organization that takes care of youth in foster care had two freezers quit working last week. They are currently getting a lot of free frozen meals and meat from the Food Bank and are constantly needing freezer space to store food. The freezers they are looking at are around $700 each. They do have two specific freezers they are looking at so they can give you the model number or put cash toward it. They are appreciative of any help they can get as they feed up to 37 youth in foster care each day.

I am reaching out with a heartfelt request on behalf of a young girl currently in foster care who has an unwavering passion for cosmetology and aspires to turn that passion into a lifelong career. Recently, she experienced a setback when her cherished hair straightener was lost during a move between group homes.

For this young girl, a hair straightener isn’t just a tool—it represents her dreams, her hope for the future, and the first step toward building a skill set that could one day empower her to help others. It is with this in mind that we are kindly requesting a donation of a hair straightener for her.

While the hair straightener is the primary item she needs at this moment, we would be incredibly grateful for any additional items that could help support her passion and learning. Some items that would be of great benefit include:

This family has recently immigrated to the United States from Zambia where they were war refugees. They are in need of baby girl clothing size 6-9 months or larger. They are also in need of employment and have been applying to agencies and using the WorkForce Alliance to try and secure employment but with no luck. If there's someone in the community who speaks Swahili and could help make connections with them to get them employment that would be extremely helpful. They also don't have reliable transportation so if there's anyone in the community who can help transport them to doctor's appointments and etc. that speaks Swahili that would be helpful.

The paternal grandmother of the four kids has custody of them now due to their dad being incarcerated and the mother not being able to care for them. She is overwhelmed with managing the four children as well as two of her own older children live at home as well and her elderly mother. They have been struggling with lice for a long time and it seems that no matter how hard they try it never goes away due to difficulty treating all the children at the same time. There never seems to be enough time in the day and the kids don't enjoy having lice treatments. I'm hopeful that someone could take the children into a lice clinic to get professionally treated as she cannot afford it.
